Toyota issues new worldwide safety recall

Toyota, the world’s top car maker, has announced a new worldwide recall of more than 400,000 of its hybrid vehicles.

Most are the latest model of the Prius, Toyota’s flagship “green” car.

The recall follows hundreds of complaints from drivers in Japan and the US about braking problems with the vehicles.

It is the latest in a series of recalls involving more than eight million cars.

Feb. 8 (Bloomberg) — James Womack, chairman of the Lean Enterprise Institute, talks with Bloombergs Lori Rothman and Matt Miller about Toyota Motor Corp.s handling of its vehicle recalls.
Toyota will recall its 2010 model Prius hybrid car in Japan this week to repair a problem with the vehicles braking system, two people familiar with the matter said, adding to global recalls of almost 8 million autos for separate defects. (Source: Bloomberg)

Toyota issues new safety recall for latest Prius hybrid

Japan’s Toyota Motor Corp has begun working to resolve a brake problem in its flagship Prius hybrid vehicles.

The fix comes after the company announced it was recalling more than 400,000 cars in the latest in a series of embarassing quality problems.

On Wednesday Toyota announced a further recall, this time affecting some 7,000 of its 2010 Camry model, which it says has problems with the power-steering.
