Ultimate Hybrid Duel: New Prius vs. Honda Insight

FULL TOYOTA PRIUS VS. HONDA INSIGHT @ INSIDELINE.COM:

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/Comparos/articleId=144926

At the launch of the 2010 Toyota Prius, Bob Carter, group vice president and general manager for Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., tells us, “We’ll face two challenges when the Prius goes on sale: the economy and the 2010 Honda Insight.

“The good news for consumers is that the market has plenty of room for both the Prius and Insight in their respective segments,” Carter adds. “Based on our 2010 projections, the Prius can achieve a theoretical 7 percent share of the industry’s largest segment — midsize sedans. In the second-ranked compact class, the Insight could achieve a 5 percent market share.”

So it’ll be a nice, peaceful coexistence for these two hybrid cars that just happen to look almost exactly like each other. Don’t believe that? Neither do we.

As the U.S. economy continues its topsy-turvy performance, nobody’s market share is safe. So it actually matters which hybrid car is better — the 2010 Honda Insight, which went on sale March 24, or the 2010 Toyota Prius, which hits dealers in late May.

The Insight has already proven itself against the 2009 Prius. But now that the 2010 Toyota Prius has appeared with its bigger engine, all-new chassis and 50-mpg EPA-combined fuel economy rating, it is a much tougher hybrid cookie (bursting with high-fiber organic oats and fair-trade chocolate chips!).

i agree we have a 66 ford f100 and it was a work truck and was never washed and waxed and the paint still isnt as bad as you think

    my point is that …
my point is that yeah some of it depends on the owner but there already gonna start developing deisal technolgy, because if you think about it the is very few cars that are 30 to 40 years old and havent needed restoration. is anyone really gonna restore a hybrid i mean c’mon. i meant by lasting aspaint doesnt come off in 10 years plastis interior parts dont break after 5 years things like that.

All 3 of my Acura …
All 3 of my Acura TL’s had 17.5 tanks, but I never had to put more then 15.5 gallons in them. The same thing can be said about my 2006 RL. It has a 19.4 gallon tank but again I never put in more then 17 gallons.

If I wanted to I could fill the Prius to 10.5 gallons, but it’s not a big deal to me. As far as I am concerned, the smaller the better.

My wife is getting 500 miles out of her tiny tank, while I’m getting 400 miles out of my large tank and I’m spending $50 while she spends $20:)

    So right! That’s …
So right! That’s what I used to have but thanks to e85 I have reduced my mpgs to around 20 and completely got rid of the yawn.

    I have a Gen III …
I have a Gen III and 1/2 tank is 6gal. The Gen III has a regular gas tank because there were too many problems with the fuel bladder being used in Gen I and II. Supposedly the bladder wouldn’t always expand properly so people couldn’t fill to listed capacity.

    The only madness is …
The only madness is you don’t realize that you’re watching USA videos. Your Polo’s mpg would drop dramatically if it were permitted to be sold in the USA. If you drove it like grandma and stayed on the highway you could get 50mpg with it, but the Polo would be rated around 35mpg in the USA.

I bet you don’t know why.

    This really is an …
This really is an eye opener. 52MPG is not good. I drive a 1.2L petrol VW Polo and get just over 82MPG and yet the Prius and Insight get lower road tax rates and congestion charge exemptions but the Polo does not!? madness.

    He’s just a dumb …
He’s just a dumb that’s jealous that hes spending $40-$50 to drive 300miles, while we spend $20-$25 to drive 500-600 miles. Basically we spend half as much to go twice as far. I will never buy a car that gets less then 50mpg again! I want an electric car now.

  14. ripper3200 says:

    If you are looking …
If you are looking for cars that are made to give you a thrill, then why in the are you going to videos of cars where the goal is to have the highest mpg. That’s about as dumb as some loser posting on a Veyron video saying who cares if it can do 253mph that isn’t because that car will run it’s 34 gallon tank try in 12 miles. The Prius on the other hand will run it’s 8.5 tank dry in 600 miles. No car is perfect & it’s stupid to cry that is a car isn’t fast when it wasn’t made to be fast

    Its not about being …
Its not about being “cool”, it’s about being efficient. Since there aren’t any reliable electric, hydrogen, solar, or any other power source cars available, the most mature choice in saving money and the enviornment would be a hybrid. Nissan is coming out with an electric car called the Leaf next year. 100 mile range and costs around 20k.

  16. ssisakl says:

    I don’t think i …
I don’t think i will ever buy Prius or insight…..its just not cool, can’t feel the rapid acceleration, and the exciting sound from engine….how sad would that be…just to save fuel…maybe they should just replace patrol with another energy..more environmental friendly …

  17. pmpursley says:

    Or you could just …
Or you could just get a Golf diesel. Spend less, similar fuel economy and you don’t look like a following a trend.

  18. TheHumbleBeez says:

    Uninformed, well I …
Uninformed, well I don’t have to be too informed to know that I stopped using that metaphor in the third grade. Baseless, no not that either, you see I was basing it on your comment, you know the retarded one. And the only lack of actual thought is displayed flawlessly in your thinking that my completely logical statement showed that lack. I do have a hybrid, ‘10 Prius, and what I enjoy is fewer trips to fill up. As for the “eco-scam,” if it means less fuel use, and emissions I’m all for it.

  19. K0wK1lla says:

    Your uninformed, …
Your uninformed, baseless snap reflex shows a lack of actual thought, and a willingness to be blindly led into the eco-scam like cattle to slaughter. You deserve nothing less than a hybrid. Enjoy!

  20. TheHumbleBeez says:

    Using this …
Using this comparison, in any real attempt to communicate an idea shows how unintelligent you must be. And your ostensibly outward hate for hybrids takes you down another notch too.

  21. g3rr01 says:

    ey?
    hybrids are for …

    ey?
hybrids are for increasing transportation efficiency
I’d say that’s smarter, than more retarded

  22. K0wK1lla says:

    Hybrid competition …
Hybrid competition is just like running in the special olympics – you may win, but you’re still retarded…

I guessed next generation HV according to a fragmentary industrial article in Japan. Improvement of battery performance. Adoption of material of taking the place of rare metal. Body lightening by reformative material technology

  25. ripper3200 says:

    So back to your …
So back to your dumb statement. The battery and brake pads will cost me the same amount of money. Zero dollars, since I will not have to buy either of them. Everything you say is a lie. You are what’s known in this world as a moron.
