The Ford Escape or Mercury Mariner. Both have received great safety/economy ratings; I have seen reports state mileage in the high 30’s, not bad for an SUV. Not to mention you can find one for the price of a midsized car.

Prius is the only feasable hybrid. And DEFINITELY stay away from ford.

I think the Toyota Prius is the best one out there because there isnt a cheaper, non-hybrid gas counterpart to it. Every other hybrid has a non-hybrid model, but the Prius doesnt.

You should get either a Toyota Prius or a Nissan Altima Hybrid.

Toyota has the best hybrid system because they’ve been developing it for the longest. Nissan, for example, just leases Toyota’s first generation hybrid technology, so Nissan hybrids are nowhere near as good as Toyota hybrids.
However, Toyota hybrids are so good and have sold so many models that they no longer qualify for the federal tax credit, so you could save money by buying something like the Honda Civic hybrid.
However, the Prius is also the cheapest hybrid, and like I said, there’s a reason they’ve sold so many of them. It’s quite possibly the best car on the road right now. I’d go with the Prius. In fact, I did!
