I suppose you think I should just settle for an ugly compact hybrid car when I get a new car?

I would puke my brains out and would want to blow my brains out if I settled for that damn Toyota Prius, Scion XB,
Toyota Echo, Honda Insight, or any of those new ugly compact hybrid cars at the expense of getting that COOL 8-cylinder Firebird TransAM or Camaro Z28. I would be in everyday agony if I lowered myself to that.

Look at this COOL-LOOKING Camaro 1997 Z28

Now look at this repulsive hybrid car,

Go ahead, get what you like. You can’t single handedly destroy the world, so don’t worry about it. It’s your money, spend it on exactly what you want.

    Why worry?

According to my local activist the mere fact that I put too much water in my kettle for my cup of tea this morning will mean that I have single-handedly destroyed the planet.

So you carry on – get that carbon footprint going – you could always plant a few marijuana plants and call it "carbon off-setting" !

For the record, since you are complaining about "new compact hybrid cars":
The Toyota Prius is a hybrid, but it’s a midsize car. It hasn’t been a compact since the redesign from a sedan to a hatchback in the 2004 model year.
Scion xB is not a hybrid, and it is a small station wagon (not a compact car).
The Toyota Echo is not a hybrid. It was discontinued after the 2005 model year, so it is not available new. However, it was a compact.
The Honda Insight is a hybrid, but it was discontinued after the 2006 model year, so it is no longer available new. It was a 2-seater, and not a compact.

The only new compact hybrid cars available is the Honda Civic Hybrid and the Lexus GS450h. The rest are all midsize cars or SUVs, at least in the US.

If you are into the 8-cylinder thing, check out the Lexus LS600hL, but even that is a midsize…

Meanwhile, getting a Chevy Firebird, Pontiac Trans Am, or a Chevy Camaro Z28, isn’t getting a new car (especially if you’re looking at a 1997 model!), but a used vehicle. Perhaps if you’re waiting for the supposed 2009 Camaro, but…

I don’t really understand why you think hybrids are ugly.

The reason the Prius looks the way it does is that it’s the most aerodynamic car on the road. Personally I think that’s cool.

If you don’t like the looks of the Prius, the Honda Civic hybrid looks like a regular car.

or even something like the Altima hybrid

Or heck, if you really need a sports car, just shell out $100,000 for the Tesla Roadster.

Ain’t nothing like V8 power! The drawback is fuel economy. Look for midsized cars that also look good and have decent power. Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, and Ford have great models out there. About the two cars you showed, day & night. However you have advantages and disadvantages with either one. It’s your personal choice at the end of the day.
