It never made much sense to me either, i think BMW has a good idea in its hydrogen model, maybe not perfect but well on its way. Just search "2009 7-series" and read...

Just as a disclaimer, i read all i know about this car in a magazine at the BMW dealer while waiting for my new $256.78 headlight! With this said id love to see some reviews of drivers of this car.

O yeah and as a side note how many people who are looking for a bmw 7, which runs about 70k to up over 100k really care about gas prices... or the envronment for that matter? My father drove a 7 series a few cars ago and the lease payment was over $1000.00 monthly. Multiply by the 36 months and you pay about 40k just to return the car when you finish.... most peopel could get 2-3 cars out of that!
References :
essentially the reason hybrids are more efficient is because they use the electric motor to power the car where the engine would not be as efficient, the engine is used to recharge the batteries and move the car where it can be efficient. gasoline engines have poor efficiency in stop and go situations and when accelerating so the motor replaces the engine in those situations, the only time the car uses both (like in the prius) is when the small gas engine and small motor are too weak on their own, so the car combines them to get going (a good example of this is the freeway on-ramp scenario)
References :
long question, but a hybrid is only more efficient at city driving,so if you do all expressway driving it may not be the correct choice for you.
References :
What scares me away is the price of replacement batteries....As much as $10,000 ---where's your savings now? Sell the car before the batteries die or else you'll never be able to sell it. Who would buy -say a 15 year old car that you need to invest $10K in. It will become an environmental polluter as it goes to the junk yardand gets buried.
