What tradeoffs, if any, would you be willing to accept to get a plug-in hybrid?
Interested to see what people think of the plug-in hybrid technology that will be here shortly………what are your opinions on the technology and what tradeoffs are you willing to accept? huge cost increase? power? space? size? safety?
I am not necessarily advocating plug-in hybrids, however, it should be noted that a plug-in system that would access power from the grid would be more efficient and lead to less polution than they way we are currently doing it, which is each auto has a combustion engine……which is more inefficient and polluting than a coal power plant…..or nuclear for that matter.
You can be more efficient when you have fewer sources of generation.
I find it amazing that opposition to plug-ins usually comes from the left wing. they are opposed to any form of energy, every solution is a bad idea as far as they are concerned.
The only reason I would buy a hybrid is to save money. If it is not cost effective, no way!
I’m not givin up my horse and buggy for no plug-in transportation … piss on that.

No, they will not solve the problem either. More plugged in cars would mean more power plants. Coal is the most common form of power generation. Imagine how many tons of CO2 they would spit out to power all the electric cars.

We have them in our city however not that many as of yet. I think it is an excellent source of saving the einvironment; pollution; gas etc. However the size right now is a bit of a let down which of course brings in the safety issue.. Hopefully in the future they will improve them….which I am sure will happen. I think by the time my grandson is ready to drive they will be the thing to have…he is 3 right now. Just think of how much we will save on our einvironment.
The disadvantages right now are in very cold climates like where I live they are not as efficient as a regualr car. Our temp. can be be -40 in the winter so they don’t quite have the capability of running for long periods at a time.
Great question by the way. I would definitely buy one someday when they have perfected them more.

No. I’ll let the rich tree huggers do that. I’ll buy one when it becomes cost effective.

You realize, of course that it is not just the extra $10,000 to start with. It is also the cost of upkeep. Those rechargeable batteries are very expensive and must be replaced at about every 1,000 miles and they take up a lot of space. These cars are not made for families or for trips. So at the present time I would not purchase one. I like the idea of hydrogen powered cars and I think we will see them before the plug-ins.
