Where are all the hybrid automobiles?

I know Big Oil is a major presence on Capitol Hill, but why are there so few hybrid models on the market?

Is this an example of politicians doing what they do best–talking out both sides of their mouths? They preach about the importance of the environment and then they turn around and do nothing about gas prices.

The bottom line? The government receives tax revenue (huge amounts) while the public pays for gasoline. Hybrids undermine this. There would have to be a good amount of change for hybrids to totally dominate the market, don’t you think?

They are Hybernating……lol

In all honest truth, hybrid cars are not as good for the environment as many would like you to believe. The government also controls the types of batteries that are to be installed into hybrid or electric cars and SUV’s.

Where do we get the power to charge these batteries for hybrid or electric cars?
From coal burning power plants.of wich the government gets huge tax revenues from coal as well.

20 yrs from now where are we going to put all of these used batteries from hybrid and electric cars? batteries are not as recyclable as many would like to believe. Have you ever seen rebuilt or refurbished batteries for sale anywhere? Nope. most get dumped in big open pits.

The hydrogen fuel cell seems to be the only solution to our problem. How long till the government passes a safety rating on one though?

Unfortunately, we NEED electricity to extract hydrogen from water. Where will that electricity come from?…….
Coal buning power plants……..

We need a better way to make hydrogen, or the whole process will be for nothing.

right now the best milage that any hybrid car gests is 52 – 34 mpg, this can easily be achieved by driving a ford festiva (much cheaper)

The world has to want change, and right now it is obvious that the people on earth don’t want change bad enough.

Sadly, the world is not going to change until something horific hapens like:
- the only rain that falls is acid rain
- the solar ice caps are gone
- skin cancer becomes the leading cause
of death world wide
- it becomes imposible to spend more than 20
minutes in the sun at a stretch

The world’s people do not care enough.
- Why have a mini-van in the city, when you could be "cool" and drive gas guzzling SUV (that will never see 4wd or even a gravel road)

The people on earth have the power to change things, but not enough people seriously care….

They don’t want us to be free from oil. That’s why Chevron bought the GM’s patent for the electrical car’s battery (which was a huge success in the mid 90’s.)

I think the manufacturers are being very cautious. GM doesn’t want to make another mistake like they did with diesel powered cars in the 80’s.
