The terrorists and and the destruction of our environment are separate problems, but both fueled by our use of gasoline automobiles. Both problems are destroying our civilization and we are stubidly feeding the frenzy every time we fill up. Why don’t we NOT fund the terrorist countries and NOT ruin the environment, by just pulling out the troops and using the billions of dollars to subsidize electric and hybrid electric automobiles for Americans. Without oil money the middle east will have to build industries and become civilized in order to survive, instead of just buying terror weopons. And best of all, our grandchildren will be able to breathe and be alive and peaceful. And the effort to achieve these goals can be done with the "war" budget already in place. Can anyone tell me WHY NOT??
That’s a great idea, good luck with destroying the arms and oil industries together though
…
It would not how ever solve the terrorism issue I’m afraid… They want to destroy the US, period, electric cars or not….
You are too intelligent for these people.

There is a very simple answer to your question: Most Americans will not buy electric cars. Ever since the automobile has been invented the United States has used oil and many Americans are afraid of change. Most hybrid cars require gas to start the engine and when the batteries run out it also uses gas to run the car. Many of the Middle eastern countries depend on oil and by not being able to sell oil will ruin their economy. There is not much else that can be done in the countries. Farming is out of the question unless you are along the Tigris or Euphraties(sp?) in Iraq. Many of those people need to farm to survive so they won’t be exporting anything that is grown. Factories would have to be rebuilt and even then the machinery requires oil to run, so the enviroment will still be harmed. Plus, America is already to commited in Iraq to just drop everything and just pull out. If we did that then every soldier who has died will have died for no reason. Im against the war, but now that we are there we can’t just leave or nothing will have been accomplished. War has been apart of civilization for as long as civilization has been around. Nothing is going to stop people from killing other people, its just how the world works. Our grandchildren will not live in a peaceful time and neither will their grandchildren. Hope this answers your question, This is a very good question by the way.

You have been totally taken over by Al Gores enviro-fear machine….LOL!
Heres something to consider. What do you do with all of the dead, supremely inefficient batteries that are full of lead (toxic) plates and leaking (toxic) acid everywhere?
Your grandchildren would be dealing with that mess eventually. There are no great solutions.
Battery technology is too far from ideal at this time to warrant mass production.

If we loose the war on terror against the islamo facists they will not let little nitwits like you ride around in their little electric cars.

Because the oil industry can’t make money off electric cars. And they are the ones setting Americas policies on energy, foreign affairs, etc.

You can do something – buy an electric car. Yes, they are available, and they work. Most of us just don’t know about them. These are not the electric cars of 30 years ago. Technology hasn’t stood still. The newest Li-Ion battery designs aren’t environmental hazards, and in fact, can last the lifetime of the car.

In fact, there are more choices now than ever before for electric cars.

If budget is a concern, used or converted electric cars can be had for just a few thousand. I bought mine off of eBay for only $2000, and invested a couple thousand more for batteries and repairs. There are some great links to cheap EVs on this page:

All of the above cars will do freeway speeds, and look like normal cars. Did you know that driving on electricity only costs about a penny per mile?
*
Another interesting car (that you can’t take on the freeway) is the Zap – which only costs $10,000 new:

For the latest technology, of course, you’ll have to spend more money. Here’s the most exciting electric car for sale this year:

The Phoenix can travel up to 250 miles per charge, carries 5 passengers plus cargo at 95mph, charges in only 10 minutes, and has batteries that will last well over 250,000 miles (for the life of the car.) Yes, it’s a real car, orders have been taken and they begin building cars this month.

Betcha didn’t know that car existed!
