where can i get more information on hybrid cars?

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

pls give me website address of some

just type it in on the net..but just a little insight for you. While you’re putting less chemicals into the ozone, the only thing you really think about is what’s coming out of your poket to do so. Yeah you wont spend as much on gas, but think about what you’re going to pay when you have to replace that battery. I was watching the news on this once….$2-4,000 for the replacement. That’s equivalent to how much you would have been spending on gas.

i am doing mech. engg. in india (maharastra) .so, now i am making the paper on hybrid car . so sir/mam please send sum important information about hybride car. please help me.

Electric cars are limited in the distance you can go with them. They also need to be recharged at electric charging stations, which takes time. hybrid cars are much better, as their only fuel is gasoline, and they never need to be recharged. They get very good gas mileage, and they are not much more expensive than regular cars. The Toyota Prius baseline model is about $23,000. Visit Toyota’s website for more information.

http://www.toyota.com/prius/index.html?s_van=GM_TN_HYBRID_PRIUS

Also, at the top of the page, hover your mouse over the "hybrids" tab, and click on "explore." This will give you information on the hybrid synergy drive. Good luck!

What are career fields that relate to the science of the Hybrid car (particularly the Toyota Prius)?

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

If possible, can you also provide me information about the career fields?

That would be engineering. In particular the specific fields would be electrical and mechanical engineering. Obviously with mechanical engineering you’d be studying how the various parts of the car work physically, while with electrical you’d be studying the electrical systems.

I would guess that electrical engineering would be the most relevant field if you want to learn about hybrids.

What is the most gas efficient non-hybrid car on the market today? ?

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Just curious. I thought it might be an interesting trivia question (or piece of information to know if I am chosen to play on Jeopardy or something.) Plus, I wouldn’t mind getting a car some time!

Dear Katie,
My best guess is the Cooper Mini—It is one of the
smallest. The VolksWagen Rabbit is also easy
on gas (two door, of course). The Harley-Davidson
gives about fifty miles to the gallon but tends to
be breezy. The new Smart Car is supposed to be
"smart" for fuel economy, but I don’t know. Much
of gas consumption is in weight of vehicle and
gear ratio. I had a Rambler American with overdrive
that gave me great mileage. The overdrive did help
a lot.. You might call some dealers in your aria and
ask around. Honda makes a small Tudor (two door)
that should be good, also Audi. They should both
be efficient. Hope this helps.
*****Most people in this country don’t want to drive
some little putt-putt if they can get something bigger
and more comfortable. I also tend to think that
"trucks are for Girls" (and smart Guys).

I’m interested in a hybrid car, will the batteries pollute a landfill when they are used up?

Friday, February 19th, 2010

I read about how good hybrid cars are for the environment but I’m worried that in a few years we will have landfills loaded with toxic batteries contaminating the groundwater. Is any information available about this?

Questions that make ya go hmmm… :)

Before looking anything up, my personal thought was that since these cars are about HELPING the environment, I would *imagine* that hybrid owners would be encouraged – even expected – to trade in their used up batteries in order that they could be sent back to manufacturers for recycling! You would think that they could just melt down any metal or plastic and reuse them, as well as recycling any other components in some way just as used oil can be recycled – despite the unaware people that vacantly dump it in the sewer drains. :(

Ok, that’s personal opinion… now for facts…

In looking around for the info, it seems that other people have asked about and discussed this elsewhere online, so we get to glean whatever we can from that…

One person says: "There is no "battery disposal" with hybrid vehicles. They last as long if not longer than the car itself." Further discussion from that person only showed that beyond the life of the car itself, he didn’t see the point. :( He only offered that "disposal of a hybrid car w/battery is no worse than a regular car." Gee, how comforting. :P

However, I looked further, and found THIS (much more reassuring) –

"Hybrids use NiMH batteries, not the environmentally problematic rechargeable nickel cadmium. "Nickel metal hydride batteries are benign. They can be fully recycled," says Ron Cogan, editor of the Green Car Journal.

…and even better: "Toyota and Honda say that they will recycle dead batteries and that disposal will pose no toxic hazards. Toyota puts a phone number on each battery, and they pay a $200 “bounty” for each battery to help ensure that it will be properly recycled." *cheer!*

So it would seem then that just like owners of cars with regular batteries, it will still come down to the level of environmental responsibility and concern held by the owner of said hybrid… which of course we would hope would be answered by the fact that he/she took the measure of owning a hybrid in the first place for the same reasons. :)
