F3DM is the world’s first mass-production plug-in electric car using home outlet to charge the battary, whichi is manufactured by BYD.

There are quite a lot of good news for BYD auto. First, the USA’s richest man Warrent Buffet just invest about 100 million USDs into BYD to become one of the stakeholders of BYD.Secondly, the world’s first invented Dual Mode electric car F3DM will be available for sale on Chinese market at the end of this year. And the MSRP is about 150 thousand RMB,which is about 22 thousand USDs.If BYD can make it, BYD will be the world’s first auto manufacturer to sell DUAL MODE electric car in the world and China is going to lead the world in the Dual Mode electric car market.

“We give up the research on the traditional auto and make a great leap to the new electric car age”, said to the media by the ambitious founder and President of BYD auto,Wang Chuan Fu several days ago. That is a very smart stratigic for emerging Chinese auto maker. It would be a great difficult to exceed the European and American auto maker in the field of making traditional engine vehicle. BYD smartly dodge this obstacle and charge into the brand new field of making Dual Mode electric car.

Chevy’s electric car Volt just made its debut on October’s Paris Auto Show and nobody knows when it will be available on the market. And although TOYOTA is the first one to put the hybrid auto Prius into the market, it lag behind in the field of Dual Mode auto.

BYD also has advantages on the technology and performance of the DUAL MODE car. F3DM use both electricity and gas. If driven using only electricity, one full charge can sustain 100 km continuous drive and max speed is 160 km per hour while the VOLT can sustain only 64 km after one full charge. BYD has its unique advantages on the battary technology. No wonder Warren Buffet, who is a smart invester, put 100 million usds into BYD’s basket.

If BYD is successful on selling F3DM, China will be the world’s first country to utilize clean and zero-emission energy at a large scale and save lots of energy for other fields.

The Next Generation of Hybrid Vehicles

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

What will it be? Hydrogen, diesel, E85, or something else? That was the question at this year’s North American International Auto Show as nearly every automaker announced an alternative propulsion vehicle. Ranging from bio-fuel to fuel cell, it is clear that hybrids are still the most energy efficient technologies available today.

Many “next generation” gas-electric hybrids were unveiled. While dual-mode hybrids are efficient at stop and go traffic, they don’t quite add as much on the highways. A new concept plug-in hybrid from Saturn can potentially go for 10 miles on pure electric power, before needing to use gas.

But whether its battery technology, plugging into the grid, powering vehicles from solar, nuclear, or wind, all renewable fuels come into play. Automakers say that having a diverse set of alternatives is the best way to reduce our dependence on gasoline.
