Just rent a regular car.

Where can I rent a hybrid car in the New York City area?
Saturday, January 23rd, 2010Fuel Economy Question: Why is there no combination of Hybrid technology with a really efficient small diesel.?
Saturday, January 23rd, 2010You know the hybrid cars you get with a normal engine and an electric motor that kicks in when the petrol engine is not needed.
Well why dont they replace the petrol engine with a super efficient deisel engine to make it even more economical. The 0.8L engine in the new Smart car that does 80mpg on its own would be a prime candidate.
The issue with doing a hybrid diesel is purely an economical one. Clean diesel engines are expensive, hybrid batteries are expensive. Combine the two, and you’re pretty much looking at getting something equivalent to an entry level sedan for the price of a luxury vehicle. Nope, that just won’t cut it.
There’s lots of great ideas out there, but economic woes kill them. The hybrid diesel is one of them.
Im getting a new car: hybrid or no?
Saturday, January 23rd, 2010So I can basically get any car that I want, but I want a hybrid car. Is it worth it?
no, its really not worth it.
First off, they’re in such high demand, its impossible to find one even if youc ould pay for it.
And, the hybrid technology today still has a long way to go. Plug in hybrids are hitting the market soon, so why not just wait till then to buy one?
Try looking at the honda civic, or a Jetta TDI. both have above average gas milage, and you don’t have to worry about any hybird battery blowing out you on you
Why do Hybrid trucks and SUVs still get bad MPG?
Saturday, January 23rd, 2010Will they ever get better MPG?
Because people still want to be able to race their neighbor.
I can’t see why they won’t do like Mercedes,7 speed automatics, and a higher rear end. That way freeway rpms would be lower.
How do I launch a boat with my hybrid SUV?
Saturday, January 23rd, 2010I’ve got a RX400h. It’s perfectly capable of towing my personal watercraft. (seadoo) But I’m worried about launching it. The typical rule about launching boats is that if your muffler gets underwater, don’t shut off the engine so that water doesn’t get in the exhaust system. But in the RX400h, I can’t control when the engine stays on. Anyone have a solution here?
Most jet ski’s are pretty light. I bet you cloud unhook the trailer and push it down and pull it back up a beach easily. If not, you could have a trailer shop add a longer tongue on your trailer to keep the vehicle dry.
What car companies are developing hybrid cars?
Saturday, January 23rd, 2010I need a list of all or most of the major car companies that sell hybrid cars. It’s for my history project =D
Companies currently offering hybrid cars:
Toyota – Prius, Camry, Highlander, Lexus LS-h, GS-h, RX-h.
Nissan – Altima Hybrid
Ford – Escape Hybrid, Mercury Mariner Hybrid, Mazda Tribute Hybrid.
Honda – Civic Hybrid. (new Insight hybrid next year).
GM – Chevy Malibu, Tahoe, Saturn Aura, Vue, GMC Yukon, Cadillac Escalade.
Chrysler – Aspen Hybrid.
The only two hybrid cars that have no regular-car counterpart are the Toyota Prius and Honda Insight. All the other hybrids are regular cars modified to receive a hybrid drivetrain.
Mercedes Benz, BMW and other carmakers are not currently offering hybrids, but will starting next year.
where can i find a wiring diagram for a series hybrid electric vehicle ?
Saturday, January 23rd, 2010i am planning to make a series hybrid electric vehicle , i just am confused as how the generator will be wired to the batteries so that it will charge them and how the batteries will power the car at the same time while getting charged from the generator
basically where can i find a detailed wiring diagram for making a series hybrid car , more detailed the better
The electric cars that use regenerative braking are relatively complicated, using 3 phase A.C. motors and computerized controllers. The majority of straight electric car conversions use DC motors and pre-made commercial controller electronics, it can be expensive to prototype and test control circuits that deal with 10s of kilowatts.
There are some pricey IEEE books that might get into the nuts and bolts…
Here’s a straight how to book (at amazon)

Is there a tax credit for buying hybrid vehicles?
Saturday, January 23rd, 2010I was told that if I buy a hybrid automobile, I can do something on my income tax return this year? Does anyone know if such a thing exists and is it does, what is it?
There is indeed a tax credit for having purchased a hybrid vehicle. I have attached the IRS link to the page that shows what the credits are for which vehicles.
The credit is only available for a limited time (per number of cars that are sold), and fluctuates depending on what time of year your purchased the vehicle. Check with a tax professional who has studied the topic if you’re going to claim the credit and are unfamiliar with the rules.
How much nickel is mined for one hybrid car battery?
Saturday, January 23rd, 2010I am curious to know how much nickel is mined for the average hybrid car battery? I’ve heard hybrids toted as the solution, but nickel is a finite resource which must be mined. As I understand it the batteries are extremely heavy composed of mostly nickel.
I don’t know the answer to your question. However, gasoline is also a finite resource which must be extracted from the Earth, and hybrids save on gasoline. Additionally, in a few years hybrids will replace nickel-metal hydride batteries with lithium-ion technology. And finally, hybrid batteries are fully recycleable:
"Toyota has a comprehensive battery recycling program in place and has been recycling nickel-metal hydride batteries since the RAV4 Electric Vehicle was introduced in 1998. Every part of the battery, from the precious metals to the plastic, plates, steel case and the wiring, is recycled. To ensure that batteries come back to Toyota, each battery has a phone number on it to call for recycling information and dealers are paid a $200 "bounty" for each battery."
