Today’s automakers are looking for a way to show off their latest hybrid technology. Hybrid vehicles – vehicles with gas and electric engines working together to power an automobile – represent only a little more than 1.5 percent of the total new vehicle marketplace, but many people are looking to hybrids to ease our dependence on oil.
Recently in Madison, Wisconsin, passionate hybrid owners and the people who make hybrids rallied at the first annual Hybridfest. Today’s hybrids aren’t just for the single person commuting to work. New hybrid models have the same look, feel, and capability as a conventional gas engine powered vehicle and help out the environment with lower emissions.
With fuel prices on the rise, many consumers are looking for any alternative to save at the pump. Hybrids work by storing kinetic energy in their battery that would otherwise be lost in a gasoline-only automobile.

A video by Plug-in Partners promoting the many benefits of Plugin Hybrids Electric Vehicles. If the current U.S. vehicle fleet were replaced overnight with PHEVs, oil consumption would decrease by 70 to 90 percent, eliminating the need for oil imports and leaving the U.S. self-sufficient in oil for many years to come. Even if the electrical power for those vehicles were drawn from coal-fired power plants, CO2 emissions would drop by more than half. If the power were produced by renewable energy sources, and the fuel in the tank were biodiesel or ethanol, the proposition gets exponentially better.
And you can get 100+ MPG!

A brief look at the FT-CH dedicated hybrid concept that Toyota unveiled at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. The FT-CH is a concept that would address Toyota’s stated strategy to offer a wider variety of conventional hybrid choices to its customers, as it begins to introduce plug-in hybrids (PHVs) and battery electrics (BEVs) in model year 2012, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCHVs) in 2015 in global markets.
