where can i find information on hybrid cars?

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

i need info on cars that run partly on electricity and partly on gas

Check out http://www.all-about-car-selection.com/hybridSUV.html for more information on hybrid vehicles. Hybrids are better suited to city drving as the engine can shut down when the vehicle is stopped and the electric motor keeps the vehicle on.

Over the next 5 years, we’ll see huge growth in the hybrid vehicle market. That said, hybrids are nothing new. Toyota introduced the Prius in Japan 9 years ago.

Why make normal engines when we know hybrid technology exists and works?

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

hybrid cars are better on gas. Just keep the body styles that we like but outfit the cars with hybrid engines. Continuing to make normal, poor mileage cars is like continuing to make VHS movies in the age of DVD players.

They still do make VHS.

Until hybrid’s cost comes down, there will still be regular engines. New information I have seen coming out is suggesting the hybrid advantage is a lot less than advertised.

I’m not convinced the current technology is worth it in the long haul. I’m guessing it’ll be another 10 to 15 years before something worthwhile comes out.

I am thinking about buying a new car, I know hybrid is more efficient but does it make sense?

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

i want to help out the environment by getting a hybrid, but if i get one will repairs be more expensive if something should happen to it? What about the gas payoff, i mean won’t it take years for the car to begin paying for itself. I have also heard that the only reason why people end up getting a hybrid is because they travel alot, or the have to drive a long distance to work. Could someone help me compare a gas car to aa hybrid?!

Hybrids are by far the most fuel efficient cars out there, with $ 3/gal gas there was a price vs payback argument, with gas prices heading north of $5/gal you will save money. Toyota Priuses in particular hold their value, no unusual repair history either. Lots of them see some serious mileage in taxi service.

Why don’t car manufacturers make diesel/electric hybrid engines for trucks and SUVs?

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

…..or even cars for that matter. Is a diesel/electric hybrid even possible?

Manufacturers really can make anything they want since they have the R&D and know-how on these products. building a diesel hybrid is as simple as replacing the petrol engine in the prius with a diesel one. However, There is a lot of politics involved in this. America as a country, gets the lowest price per gallon than any other country in the world from a customer standpoint. That is because they are the largest customer and can get away with better discounts/bargains than others. However, to remain the biggest consumer, they cannot allow the common man to have vehicles that suddenly start using only half the amount of oil that they now do. It would hurt the oil companies too much. Even the ones producing and operating inside America.
This is not such a big deal in countries like india and european ones since they do not get such great prices per barrell anyway. So they have no choice but to choose alternatives to petrol like Diesel, as they already have.
This is only one explanation to your question. There are theories about greater pollution being caused by using diesel etc that also play their part.
Also, a diesel engine is supposed to cost more in maintenance since the whole process is dirtier than a petrol engine. Carbon formation and engine sludge problems are greater in diesel engines than petrol. However, these are not problems that cannot be fixed by some R&D.
Hope that answers your question.

What do hybrid cars do when they run out of charge?

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

I’m doing this for a class project and I need help, so here’s my question.

What do hybrid cars do (such as the Prius) when the battery doesn’t have charge anymore and you don’t use the regenerative braking as much to recharge the battery?
emiller, you answer doesn’t relate to my question, thanks anyway.

They use the gasoline engine to drive the car and to charge the batteries.

Is there any electric hybrid kits for a normal car?

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

If not where would the application be the most feasible?
A special rim that just bolts on any wheel thats an electric motor that charges as well as produces power at low speeds.
That costs under 3000 bux and uses flexable gel cells to store anywhere.
Give me a great hybrid conversion kit idea for 10 points…

This has been done before. If you do a little research, I’m sure you can find enough information about the how to.

This would be a good idea for a business.

Why aren’t hybrid minivans available in the U.S.?

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

It seems like an obvious nexus of interests: people who favor carrying capacity over flashy looks or sporty performance & people who want to save money on gas. So why aren’t there hybrid minivans (like the Toyota Estima) available in the U.S.? Why weren’t minivans one of the first hybrid models available?

They are not currently any hybrid minivans available in the US, but you should see some pop up in 2007. According to a site I found:" 2007 Toyota Sienna Hybrid Minivan:
A larger version of Estima is Sienna marketed in US and Europe by Toyota. Sienna hybrid will be the first hybrid minivan available in US market. The exact date for the launch is not specified by Toyota but it is most likely going to be introduced in 2007. 2007 Toyota Sienna hybrid minivan will have 2.4 liter, four-cylinder engine. The hybrid engine will be very likely similar to Highlander or Lexus hybrid suvs. The engine will deliver 270 hp of power and will come with an acceleration of 0-60 km/hour in 8 seconds."

Another site posted yet more info on when we could expect to see some hybrid minivans cruising the streets of the US: http://www.marketwatch.com/News/Story/Story.aspx?guid=%7BC4C67715%2D44D6%2D4C79%2D8197%2D7DB87025EE60%7D&source=blq%2Fyhoo&dist=yhoo&siteid=yhoo

Just hang in there! They’re coming soon!

Why hasen’t the government cut down on vehicle emitions and made automakers produce only hybrid automobiles?

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

They have cut down on vehicle emissions and they can’t mandate that only hybrid cars be sold because we live in a capitalist state where the manufacturer can make what they feel will make them the most money.

Can a hybrid car take a major car crash, is it safe to drive?

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

I know hybrid cars is good for gas but, my concern is safety reasons, towards car crashes/accidents. it’s a small car, can it take the punishment. If you own one, and had a accident w/your hybrid, please fill me in with the some details. Or stick with a SUV?

all cars sold in US have to pass the same front end and side impact tests. also rollover tests. …….air bags and seat belts are the same.. Sa to a wreck with all those batterys. who knows. the govt maybe… try the US DOT
